Ephesians Summer Devotional | Day 3
Wednesday – Redeemed and Forgiven
Written by Sarah McClellan (Lithopolis Campus)
Ephesians 1:7–8
Key Verse: “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins.” (v. 7)
Relationships are special – they’re messy, important, annoying, and filling. Often, the people you’re in closest relationship to, know your worst moments. The moments when your mom would have looked at you and said, “you can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube.” And sometimes, within those relationships, those can also be the people who throw “the thing” back in your face mid-argument despite the fact that you’ve sought forgiveness for it. We all carry things that we wish we could erase – moments of failure, hurtful words spoken, decisions we regret.
The beauty of the Gospel is that we don’t have to stay chained to those moments. Paul reminds us that “in Him we have redemption through His blood.” Redemption means being bought back, rescued, and restored. Jesus didn’t just offer a second chance – He paid the ultimate price to free us from the penalty and power of sin. His blood wasn’t spilled by accident; it was poured out in love, so we could be made new.
Forgiveness in Christ isn’t temporary or shallow – it’s deep and lavish, flowing from the riches of God’s grace. He doesn’t forgive reluctantly or keep a record of wrongs. Instead, He forgives completely and continually, because that’s who He is. Today, don’t let guilt define you. If you are in Christ, you are redeemed. You are forgiven. Let that truth sink into your soul and shape how you see yourself and how you walk in freedom.
Reflection Questions:
- What “toothpaste moments” from your past do you still carry guilt or shame over, even though you’ve asked for forgiveness?
- How does knowing that Jesus paid for your redemption – not just offered a second chance – change the way you think about your relationship with Him?
- In what ways are you tempted to define yourself by your past instead of Christ’s forgiveness?
Prayer Prompt:
Repeat: “God, thank You for choosing me, blessing me, and calling me Your child—help me live secure in Your love today.
