Ephesians Summer Devotional | Day 5
Friday – Sealed with the Holy Spirit
Written by Sarah McClellan (Lithopolis Campus)
Ephesians 1:11–14
Key Verse: “When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit.” (v. 13)
Have you ever needed assurance that something important really belonged to you – like a deed, a document, or a wedding ring? In Paul’s day, a seal was a sign of ownership and security, stamped with authority and purpose. That’s exactly what God gives us in the Holy Spirit. When you believed in Jesus, God didn’t just save you – He sealed you. That seal isn’t ink or wax, but His very Spirit, living within you. It’s His personal guarantee that you belong to Him, and that your inheritance in Christ is secure.
The Holy Spirit is more than a symbol; He is your constant Helper, Comforter, and Guide. His presence is a daily reminder that you are not abandoned, not overlooked, and not alone. Even when doubts creep in or life feels unstable, the presence of the Holy Spirit in you is God’s way of saying, “You’re mine – and I’m not letting go.” No matter what happens to you or what you do, you belong to God. His loyalty and commitment to you is not fickle nor fair weather. The fact that you belong to Him is the most certain and unchanging thing about you!
Today, rest in that assurance. Your place with God isn’t held together by your strength, but by the Spirit who marks you as God’s own.
Reflection Questions:
- What does it mean to you personally to be “marked with a seal” by the Holy Spirit?
- When life feels uncertain or you struggle with doubt, how can the presence of the Holy Spirit remind you that your salvation is secure?
- In what areas of your life do you need to trust more deeply in the Spirit’s work rather than relying on your own strength or control?
Prayer Prompt:
Repeat: “God, thank You for choosing me, blessing me, and calling me Your child—help me live secure in Your love today.
