Tuesday – But God…

Written by Skylar Pritt (The Chapel)

Ephesians 2:4-5

Key Verse:
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive in Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved.”

Think about the last time someone stepped in for you at the last minute. Maybe a co-worker covered your shift when you got sick at the last minute, or a friend showed up with food or groceries when money was tight. Those moments stay with us because they represent rescue. They remind us that someone saw us and acted. That’s the heart of the gospel, But God stepped in.

This “aliveness” isn’t just about having a spiritual pulse—it’s about having a new heart, a new identity, and a new hope for eternity. In Christ, we’ve been awakened to a life filled with purpose, hope, and freedom. This is a daily invitation to live as resurrected people. We’re no longer defined by our past, shame, or brokenness. We are made alive. Completely and eternally alive.

Paul says that even when we were dead in our sin, God—motivated by love—made us alive in Christ. This wasn’t a minor upgrade; it was a total transformation. God didn’t wait for us to clean up our act. His love came first, and His grace brought us to life. You don’t need to earn His affection. It’s already been poured out in full. That’s the “But God” moment that changes everything.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Has there ever been a time when you were rescued by someone else’s unexpected kindness? How did that make you feel?
  2. Where have you seen this new life take place in your story?
  3. How might your day look different if you truly lived from a place of resurrection life?

Prayer Prompt:

“God, thank You for stepping in when I had nothing to offer. Help me live in the freedom of Your love and grace.”
