Wednesday – Raised and Seated
Written by Skylar Pritt (The Chapel)
Ephesians 2:6 “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.”
I remember applying for a job I thought I had a low chance of getting. I walked into the interview without confidence and fully expecting to be dismissed. But not only was I hired – I was given a leadership role. I kept waiting for someone to take it back. That feeling of being seated at a table you didn’t earn never left me. And that’s just a shadow of what God does spiritually for everyone who is a follower of Jesus.
If being made alive with Christ wasn’t enough, Paul takes it further – we are raised and seated with Him. That means our position has changed. We’re no longer stuck in the guilt and shame of the past. We now sit with Christ in a place of honor, authority, and identity. Our record doesn’t show our resume of sins and failures. It shows everything Jesus has accomplished on our behalf.
It’s easy to forget this when life gets messy or when we’re weighed down by mistakes. But God sees us in Christ, not as who we were, but as who we are in Him. When we embrace this truth – which was graciously given to us — we live not from defeat but from victory. No matter how “lowly” we feel like our life is here on this side of eternity, when Jesus comes again, we will be appropriately restored to our proper place in Jesus’ kingdom. We are adopted into His eternal royal family.
Reflection Questions:
- Have you ever longed to be in a “higher” place in life? Where do you experience that longing most?
- Where do you still live as if you’re spiritually stuck “on the ground”?
- This new position comes with responsibility. In what ways are you stewarding the responsibility that comes with being seated with Jesus in His coming kingdom?
- How can this new identity in Jesus influence your thoughts, decisions, and confidence?
Prayer Prompt:
“Jesus, thank You for lifting me up and giving me a new position in You. Help me live from my seat beside You—not from my past.”
