Thursday – Powerful Prayer
Written by Tricia Fourman (Jefferson Campus)
Ephesians 3:14-19
Key Verse:
“For this reason I kneel before the Father.”
In 2009, I had the privilege of joining a short-term mission team to Cambodia. Nearly 16 years later, I still vividly remember the night that forever changed my faith. Lying in a quiet hotel room halfway across the world, with Hillsong United’s “From the Inside Out” playing on repeat, I spent hours journaling and wrestling with God. I longed to be more rooted in my faith, filled with the Holy Spirit, and to know Him more deeply.
In this passage, Paul kneels before God not out of habit but because he deeply respects God and feels a heavy spiritual burden. He does not pray for physical needs or quick solutions. Instead, he asks that believers would be made strong through God’s power, deeply grounded in love, and completely filled with God’s presence. This is a bold and personal prayer. Paul is not just asking God to help people, he wants them to experience real change. Paul’s posture in prayer shows his humble heart, his trust in God, and his focus on what truly matters forever.
Paul’s prayer reminds us of the amazing power that comes when we pray according to God’s will. He doesn’t ask for small or surface-level things. Instead, he prays for strength on the inside through the Holy Spirit, for Christ to live fully in our hearts, and for us to understand how wide and deep Christ’s love is for us. This kind of prayer changes us. It helps us stay strong, grow in faith, and receive the spiritual strength that comes from God. Prayer, as Paul shows, is not weak or quiet. It is strong. It brings God’s help into our lives and teaches us to rely on His power, not our own.
Reflection Questions:
- What does Paul’s example teach you about the posture and focus of your own prayers?
- When was the last time you asked God to strengthen your inner being rather than just fix your outer circumstances?
- How can you make space to truly experience the depth of Christ’s love and power this week?
- What percentage of your prayers are about making your will happen for your life vs praying for help in making God’s will happen in your life?
Prayer Prompt:
“Father God, strengthen me through Your spirit today. Help me rely on Your power and better understand the depth of Your love.”
