Friday – Immeasurably More
Written by Tricia Fourman (Jefferson Campus)
Ephesians 3:20-21
Key Verse:
“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine…”
This passage reminds me of another story from the Old Testament. In 1 Samuel 1:9-20, Hannah longed for a child and year after year, she prayed with deep sorrow. One day at the temple, she quietly poured out her heart to God, promising that if He gave her a son, she would dedicate him to the Lord. God answered her simple, heartfelt prayer with a son, Samuel. But the impact didn’t end there. Samuel became one of Israel’s greatest prophets, anointing kings and shaping a nation. Through bold prayer, God changed history.
Paul ends his prayer in Ephesians 3 with a powerful reminder that God can do far more than we could ever imagine. These verses help us look beyond our problems and focus on God’s endless power and glory. God not only hears our prayers He goes beyond them and works in ways we may not understand.
This passage also tells us that God’s power is already in us through the Holy Spirit. We are not waiting for strength to come. Instead, we are learning to use the strength we already have because of Jesus. When we pray with faith, even when we feel weak or unsure, we are connecting with a God who is always at work. He moves through the church and through Christ in every generation, including ours. Our weakness and confidence in prayer is not what matters, because every prayer is the recognition that we are dependent on the power of God. In reality every true prayer is one born of weakness.
No prayer is too small or insignificant. I don’t know what you are going through but God’s desire and capability is far greater than anything you could imagine for yourself.. Hannah wasn’t trying to change the world, she just wanted a child. God used her bold prayers for something far bigger. God often begins with bold prayers whispered in pain or hope. What might He want to do with your simple request today? Never underestimate what He can and loves to do with a surrendered heart.
Reflection Questions:
- When have you seen God answer a prayer in a way that surprised you?
- What bold prayer are you not praying right now because you are failing to see that God can do more than you could possibly imagine?
- How might you live differently if you truly believed God is able to do “immeasurably more”?
Prayer Prompt:
“God, I bring you my hopes and fears, trusting that You can do more than I ask or imagine. Strengthen my faith and help me to live with bold expectation of what You can do through me.”
