COLOSSIANS STUDY
COLOSSIANS DESCRIPTION - GROUPS RESOURCE ARCHIVE
By what means do you keep your faith journey on the right path? How do you know it’s right and by what do you evaluate it against?
Christians in the Roman Empire were being bombarded with heretical teachings from all sides. Some Jewish converts were trying to incorporate strict Jewish traditions and laws, such as circumcision, into Christian living. Some “traveling evangelists” who made money by going to different churches, preaching and taking up collections, would say that Paul was not an apostle, that he never knew Jesus personally and that he was teaching contrary to the teachings of Christ. Paul, however, was no rookie in confronting these teachings and addresses each one in this short letter.
Paul wrote to the church in Colossae to fortify it against false teachers who might try to impose strict rules about eating and drinking and religious festivals. Paul shows the superiority of Christ over all human philosophies and traditions.
